There is an old saying that “the falling drops will at least wear the stone”. Yes, perseverance is a much lauded quality. It is seen by many as an essential ingredient for success. The woman in today’s gospel certainly possesses it. She is a pagan whom Jesus seems to ignore. But she doesn’t give up. She needs healing for her tormented daughter, she knows and believes that He has the power. She kneels at His feet until finally she gets what she wants. She is a model for all of us who are tempted to abandon whatever it is we are trying to achieve. Above all, she is a reminder to us that if we persevere in our prayers we will be answered.
