Season of Advent

Season of Advent: In this season the Church is preparing to celebrate the Birth of Christ. As we remember, so also we look forward in faith to his Second Coming at the end of time. It’s a period of joyful hope. The hope of Advent is expressed in the first part of Advent with the concentration on the Second Coming while the first coming is recalled particularly from the 17th December, when Christ is seen as the fulfilment of the hope of Israel. Throughout Advent violet (purple) is the colour used for seasonal celebrations.

Advent: This weekend we begin a four-week preparation for the feast of Advent. The season of Advent gives us the opportunity to prepare spiritually for the season of Christmas.

First Sunday of Advent : The blessing of the advent wreath at all Masses.

Second Sunday of Advent: Senior Citizen’s Christmas gathering.

Third Sunday of Advent: Bambenelli Sunday. All are invited to bring the baby Jesus from your crib to Mass on the weekend of 13th/14th December for a special blessing on your family home this Christmas. Also, Sacramental Masses for those preparing for First Holy Communion and Confirmation.

Fourth Sunday of Advent: Our Abbey Parish Pastoral Area Carol Service takes place on Sunday evening 21st December at 7pm in the Friary Ennis.
