Feast of St Clare

This Monday 11th August, we celebrate the feast of St Clare, the Foundress of the Poor Clare Sisters. Our Diocese has enjoyed the blessing of the presence of the Poor Clares for the last 68 years at their monastery in Francis Street Ennis. During his holidays last month, Pope Leo visited the local Poor Clare Monastery where he took the opportunity to pray with the Sisters and he told them “It is good that the church knows your life, for it is a precious testimony.” At the opening of the Poor Clares Monastery in Ennis in 1957, the late Bishop of Killaloe described the monastery as a “power house of prayer”. 68 years later, the ten sisters in the community continue to pray for all of us every day. St Clare, pray for us.
