24 Apr 2016
Today marks the actual anniversary date of the Easter Rising in Dublin 1916. Appropriately, an ad hoc committee, representative of the parish, has arranged to mark the outbreak of the rebellion when the Dublin GPO was seized and the Republican Proclamation was read by Padraig Pearse from its steps, all on 24th April, precisely one hundred years ago. After 11am Mass in Quin, and outside the church, a short ceremony will consist of the raising of the National Flag, the unveiling of a commemorative engraving and the playing of the National Anthem. A lone piper will then lead the gathering on a short march to Quin Community Hall for a cultural, historic and artistic presentation, based on events of the time, performed by children of the parish, and featuring the All-Ireland winning local U13 choir.
