Two New Saints
On Sunday next 7th September Pope Leo will canonise Blessed Carlo Acutis and Blessed Pio Giorgio Frassati at a ceremony in Rome. Though they lived a Century apart, their joint Canonisation highlights the universal call to holiness. With Carlo recognized for his use of technology to help spread the faith and Frassati for his devoted service of the poor.
Pio Giorgio Frassati (1901- 1925) was born in Italy, an activist of social justice, a mountain climber, he came from a wealthy family, known for his deep faith, commitment to the poor and he had a joyous spirit. He was an active member of his local St Vincent de Paul Conference caring for the sick and poor of Turin. He died in 1925 at the age of 24.
Carlo Acutis was born in London in 1991 of Italian parents who went on to live in Italy. He had a deep devotion to the Eucharist and used the Internet to be “God’s Influencer” and promote the Catholic Faith. He died of Leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15. He is recognised for his use of technology to spread the faith
