Church St. John XXIII Clooney Golden Jubilee 1976-2026: On a sunny Sunday evening on 22nd August 1976 the people of Clooney gathered in great numbers for the opening and dedication of the new Church by the late Bishop of Killaloe Bishop Michael Harty. The Tulla Pipe Band were in attendance to add to the occa-sion and greet the Bishop. Mrs Terry Murphy was the Sacristan and Frances O’Halloran conducted the Choir with Terry Conroy on the organ. Parishioners spent the previous evenings cleaning and preparing the grounds for the occasion. The late Fr Seanie Murphy was a Clerical student at the time and he helped train and prepare 6 Altar boys for the Mass, They were Raphael & Gerry Keogh , Pat Walsh, Pat McMahon, Tadhg Halpin and David Culligan. The gifts at the Offertory were presented by, Joseph Daffy, Francis Clune. Jimmy Kelly, John Carolan, Eileen Loughnane, Martin McInerney, Anne Carolan and Martin Neylon. After the Mass, parishioners adjourned to the Hall in quin for refreshments and chat. On Sunday 27th September Bish-op Fintan Monahan will celebrate the Golden Jubilee Mass of Thanksgiving in Clooney at 11am.
